Contact Lenses for Your Eye Care Needs

Contact lenses help correct refractive errors such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, myopia, and presbyopia. At Redwater Eye Care, our patients can choose from a wide selection of lenses based on their eye concerns.

Whether you’re trying to get rid of irritating dry eye symptoms, need your vision corrected, or just want to rock a new look, we’ll help you pick the right pair of contacts. Through a contact lens fitting, we’ll make sure your prescription is correct and match you with contacts that fit your lifestyle, from simple daily vision needs to active outdoor work.

Why Do You Need a Contact Lens Exam?

A routine eye exam can tell us if you need vision correction, but it doesn’t include the tests required for a contact lens prescription.

During a contact lens exam, precise measurements of your eye will be taken to help make sure your contact lenses fit, and we’ll consider your eye health in detail to prescribe an appropriate contact for your vision needs.

Standard Contact Lens Types

There are many contacts to choose from and a couple of factors to consider when picking the right type. Some things to keep in mind are your vision needs, the lens material, and how often you’ll need to wear and replace them.

Contact lenses don’t get in the way like regular glasses and they can provide a wide field of view, so they can be a great option for people with active lifestyles or jobs that require a decent amount of physical activity.

At Redwater Eye Care, Dr. Gill will work with you one-on-one to choose a suitable lens that fits your needs and lifestyle.

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft contact lenses are made of a soft and flexible plastic that allows oxygen to pass through to the cornea. The lens material helps make this type of lens more comfortable, and they can be easier to adjust to than some other contacts.

RGP contact lenses can be more durable and last longer than soft lenses. They are easy to handle, can provide sharper vision than some other contacts, and can be less likely to tear, but RGP lenses may not feel entirely comfortable in the beginning, so it may take a longer time to adjust to wearing these lenses.

Some types of RGP lenses may be recommended for people with astigmatism, dry eyes, and other specific eye conditions.

Hybrid lenses offer the comfort of soft lenses with the benefits of an RGP lens. These contacts can be a good option for people who feel uncomfortable wearing RGP lenses but still want some of the benefits they provide.

Specialty Contact Lens Types

Specialty contact lenses can be a good option for people with vision needs that can’t be addressed with standard contacts. The people who typically fall into this category are those with corneal problems or other eye diseases, such as dry eyes.

At Redwater Eye Care, our patients can select from a variety of contact lens types to address their eye concerns and go about their daily lives with clear vision.

Scleral Lenses

Scleral contact lenses are a type of rigid gas-permeable lens. They sit on the white part of your eye, known as the sclera, while fluid is collected in the space between your cornea and the lens.

Scleral lenses can be a great option for people with dry eyes because the fluid promotes moisture on the surface of the eye, which can help alleviate symptoms like redness and stinging sensations.

Scleral lenses may also be recommended for people with conditions that affect the shape of their cornea, such as keratoconus.

Aspheric lenses have different curvatures over their surface and are designed to reduce visual aberrations caused by curvature in your eyes. They’re one option for addressing visual problems caused by an uneven curvature in the different parts of your eye, and may be recommended for severe refractive errors.

Toric lenses are a type of soft contact lens with a shape designed to help correct astigmatism. Their unique shape helps provide different focusing powers in different areas of the eye to provide clear vision at all distances.

Multifocal Lenses

Multifocal lenses have multiple prescriptions in 1 lens for vision correction at different distances. You may have bifocal contacts with 2 different prescriptions or multifocal contacts designed to provide clear vision across several distances.

Myopia control lenses are designed to help slow the progression of myopia for kids and stop blurry vision from getting worse. They work through different methods that all have the intended goal of slowing elongation in the eye, which is a primary cause of myopia.

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, uses special contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea and improve your vision. These lenses are worn at night to change the shape of your cornea while you sleep. Ortho-k is often used as a form of myopia control and can make it possible to see clearly during the day without contacts or glasses.
